Engineering Manager – (Oxford) – £80,000 per annum
We are seeking a highly capable Engineering Manager to join a dynamic team. As the Customer & Sustaining Engineering (CSE) Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading the engineering function, ensuring the delivery of customer engineered products and managing derivative development for all released products. This position reports directly to the Director of Engineering and requires strong collaboration with Engineering Managers and Manufacturing Managers.
Primary Purpose: As the customer-facing part of the engineering team, the CSE Manager is instrumental in managing the customer experience. You will work closely with the commercial team on tendering and RFQ activities, defining specifications, costs, and risks to ensure successful outcomes. Managing product developments, project timescales, and compliance documentation will be essential, along with collaborating with NPI and R&D teams for complex projects. Additionally, you will provide technical support to field and factory teams, lead engineering improvement actions, and contribute to the product and engineering roadmap.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop accurate RFQs and quotes, ensuring technical deliverability within committed terms.
- Conduct resource and capacity planning to meet current and future liabilities.
- Deliver customer engineering projects within agreed timescales, budget, and quality standards, while meeting safety and compliance requirements.
- Manage product compliance for all released product families, including regulatory requirements (MD, LVD, EMC, PED, RoHS, REACH, etc.).
- Drive product improvement activities and develop derivatives for emerging market sectors.
- Lead quality investigations and reliability improvements based on Non-Conformance Reporting (NCR).
- Communicate project risks and capabilities, along with mitigation plans, to the Executive team through the Engineering Risk Register.
- Report the status of all activities to ensure awareness among key stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain a capability improvement plan to enhance departmental efficiency and bridge skill gaps.
- Provide line management responsibilities, including performance reviews, training plans, and capability development.
- Collaborate closely with Product Management, Sales, and NPI teams for smooth product transfer from development.
- Ensure timely delivery of product documentation, utilizing internal and external resources.
- Occasional travel to customers, conferences, other company offices, and customer sites.
- Take responsibility for personal development, stay updated on industry advancements, and prepare seminars to educate the business.

Person Specification – Essential Requirements: Education/Qualifications:
- Minimum degree in Engineering or Physics, ideally with higher qualifications.
- Strong knowledge of systems engineering, electromechanical design, and product development experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Engineering or Technical Management.
Professional Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated capability in engineering systemized products and modular design.
- Extensive engineering product development experience with knowledge of product lifecycles and related business processes.
- Expertise in project planning, commitment, and delivery, including task management tracking.
- Experience in budgeting and cost estimation planning for engineering departments or development activities.
